To second a suggestion made a while back: an extremely useful feature would be a command to paste as plain text.

It's something I need every day when I'm copying text from Word or other applications into WordPress or a web-based CMS. At present I have to paste into a text editor, copy again, and paste into my browser.

I posted both of these as bug reports but perhaps readers of the forums can tell me what I'm doing wrong. As it stands, Clips is useless to me.

Bug one: text paste fails in important apps including Word and TextWrangler. It works correctly
in vi in a Terminal.
1. In any application, cmd-C two or more times to copy items to Clips.
2. In Clips, highlight a clip and cmd-C to copy it to clipboard.
3a. In vi, cmd-V. Paste is successful.
3b. In Word, cmd-V. Paste fails and Word gives the error message, "There is not enough mem
ory or disk space to complete the operation."
3c. In TextWrangler, cmd-V. Nothing happens.

Bug two: paste shortcuts fail in every app I've tried.
1. In any application, cmd-C. Item is copied to Clips.
2. In any application, shift-cmd-1 to paste latest item. Nothing happens.

I'm running:
Clips 2.0/12365
MacOs 10.6.7
TextWrangler 3.5.3
Word for Mac 2011 14.0.2

I missed the upgrade promotion. I'm happy to pay the (now) $5.

My question is, is there any way to import your old clips into 2.0? Or is it supposed to do that automatically and mine's broken? Or do you just have to start over?

technosinner,

As posted on our blog, we provided the update for free for the first week so our existing users would get a chance to migrate to the Mac App Store version, since Apple doesn't provide us with any way to move our existing users to their store.

I'm a bit confused. I purchased Clips 1.5 a little while ago, and now I see 2 is out, and FREE?!? Is this a true upgrade or is there some features not updated? It's just, $20 as opposed to free, I am very confused...

Hello

I am using Clips on a single Mac (10.6.4) with multiple user accounts (UAs).

Clips functions perfectly (in all of the accounts) unless I have more than one account active, then depending on which account was subsequently activated the software refuses to open/ start. I have to close both active UAs, then log into the account I wish to utilise, then Clips functions as normal, however this process is somewhat cumbersome.

I have tried playing around with the Sharing tab in the preferences, but this has had no effect, or at least none that I can observe.

My emails to the developer and a support ticket have gone unanswered, which would suggest (perhaps I am mistaken) that this issue has been seen as a criticism of the software, which it is not; Clips is a (almost) perfect solution and one that I have utilised extensively, but I would like an answer as a registered user to the rather simple question “Is Clips designed to open in more than one account at a time?“

If not then no big deal, perhaps multi- user account functioning could go on the wish list for future development.

But if so, then how do I get it to function when more than one UA is active?

Thank you for your attention.

What an amazing lack of support for your product. I am very disappointed with Clips. I now understand the basis for the name of the company. Yuck... 4 months and no answer. A simple request about how your product works. So sad.

I have had clips for over a year and the things I have figured out work well and I use it all the time.

What I can't figure out is where do the clips go - If I copy 5 items for uses elsewhere without putting each in a named clipboard as I copy them, I can't find them again. The Shift/Command/N only has the most recent copy in position 1, the others are from sometime in the past and not any of the last 5 things I copied. Also, cannot find any but the 5 item in the "My Clips" list except the last one. So where did the other 4 go? What am I missing on use of Clips?

As it is possible to make exceptions it would be nice to be able to set a maximum clip size. I.e. when working with images I have several times experienced clips using 300+ MB of ram due to a copied image. This is unacceptable on my machine. So if I could say that no clip must be larger than say 10 MB it would be nice.

I connection to this if I have a very large image in clips and delete it by holding down alt and clicking the cross it seems that clips do not clean up its memory as the used memory only changes slightly. Is this perhaps a leak?

Otherwise thanks for a great app.

I just downloaded Clips, and so far I like both the floating panel and the Organizer. The latter is almost like iTunes for your clips. There's definitely room for improvement in Clips, but I'v tried several clipboard applications and so far this one seems to be a cut above them all.

A simple feature you could add to Clips that would make it much more useful would be a keyboard shortcut to paste as plain text. That should be simple, and it's something Jumpcut can't do.

A few other suggestions:

One thing Jumpcut can do that Clips can't: Clear the clipboard! This should be a drop-down option on the menu bar.

I'm not sure I need the separate clipboards for each Space; there should be a way to disable that in the prefs.

Also, anything you can do to reduce the RAM footprint would be a huge plus.

The only reason this has not been responded to sooner is because the forums is a place to get answers to questions about the products and how they should be used, not a place to report problems. It is therefore not checked has often than the bug repository ("Report a Bug" from our support page, or from the Clips menu).

Memory consumption can and will be improved in future releases.
