Linkinus 2.0.2 Hangs During Time Machine Backup Started 2 years ago by SaladFork

    Linkinus 2.0.2 has been working flawlessly for me on Snow Leopard, with one minor caveat. For some reason, shortly after Time Machine starts its backup process, the entire Linkinus application freezes up (beach ball style) and remains completely frozen until Time Machine finishes its backups.

    As soon as Time Machine finishes, or when I hit Stop Back Up, Linkinus returns to normal, with the minor exception that it immediately receives all messages that were sent during the freeze up time.

    I've been able to reproduce this issue on a near 100% basis. The steps:
    1) Start Linkinus, connect to a server, begin chatting
    2) Start Time Machine backup
    3) Continue using Linkinus
    4) At some point during the backup, Linkinus will freeze up and beach ball
    5) Stop Time Machine's backup (or let it finish)
    6) Observe that Linkinus use returns to normal

    Anyone else having this issue? Is there a way to stop it from happening?

    Same thing happening to me and it also appears to be Time Machine related. What makes it more annoying is the freeze for me lasts long enough to time me out of all the servers I'm logged into, so I'm joining and rejoining channels about 4 times an hour.

    Could you please use "Help -> Report a Bug" in Linkinus itself? That way we can make sure that the bug is tracked.

    Done.

    Let me guess (as it was just happening right now) this is going to be somehow related to the new single file log format of which mine (~/Library/Application Support/Linkinus2/Logs.lnk2log) is currently 2.2 Gigabytes and must take over 5-10 mins to backup via Firewire 800.

    Hmm, I was waiting for this version since I installed Snow Leopard. Are the crashed general or only isolated cases ?

    I think I'm gong to install/run the 2.0.2 version anyways so I'll keep you guys posted on my experience.

    turkchgo … possibly not I cannot say for sure, that's the developer's field of expertise.

    davidgoscinny: As far as I know (not running SL myself admittedly) Linkinus runs fine apart from some minor caveats.

    Well I've installed it & it's been working well, no crashes during Time Machine backups so far. :-)

    If you have opted in to the beta program at http://linkinus.com/beta, can you try out the 2.0.3 beta and confirm whether or not the hangs have gone away or are getting better/worse?
